An exhilarating montage of southeast Seattle’s cultural heritage will be on display Thursday, January 16, 2014, as the Southeast Seattle Community Youth Orchestra (SESCYO) presents its “One Neighborhood – One World” concert at Rainier Beach High School’s Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center (8815 Seward Park Avenue, Seattle WA 98118). Area youth, including students from the new Rainier Beach High School Baccalaureate Program, will join the orchestra in performing traditional ethnic dances under the guidance of local teaching artists.
The event, which will start at 6:45 pm, highlights the emerging role of the arts in the overall resurgence of the neighborhood, already home to Northwest Tap Connection, KUTT’N’Up, the recently reopened Rainier Beach Community Center and the annual Rainier Beach Art Walk.
One Neighborhood – One World is sponsored by Community Kitchens Northwest, Northwest Folklife, Rainier Beach Community Empowerment Coalition, Rainier Beach High School, Rainier Beach High School PTSA, Seattle Department of Parks & Recreation (Rainier Beach Community Center, SE Seattle P.E.A.C.E.
